Dot NAME Domain Name Registrations

Set up in 2001, the .NAME extension is the single TLD meant for personal websites only. These domain names can be personal or fictitious names, nicknames and/or other titles people are known by. At the beginning, only 3rd-level registrations were allowed, so if you wanted to book john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was loosened and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already taken 3rd-level domains remained working.
